Triathlon: Sprint Distance (Jun 23)

Distances: 750 meter swim / 20k bike / 5k run - (distances may change slightly)
Start Time: The Sprint race will follow the International waves. International race starts at 6:30AM.
Race Cut-off Time: 11:30AM Transition Area will be broken down starting at noon.
Divisions: Individual or Relay (2 or 3 person teams)
Awards

  • All participants receive a finisher medal
  • Overall Top 3 Male and Female
  • Overall Top 3 Male and Female for each age division. Age divisions are as follows: 19 & under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 & up.
  • Overall Top 3 Men in the Clydesdale category (men over 200lbs.) and women in the Athena category (women over 165 lbs.)
  • Overall Top 3 Relay teams

Course Information

The International Distance waves will begin at 6:30am and will be followed by the Sprint Distance waves. The start line is adjacent to the transition area. The finish line is behind the RecPlex/Ice Arena, on the lakefront path.

Swim Course
The Swim Start is on the east side of Lake Andrea. Lake Andrea is a spring feed lake. Water temperature is typically the mid to lower 70's. Decisions regarding wetsuits will be announced at the start of the race on Sunday, June 24, 2018. The Sprint Distance swim course is a triangle, finishing where it starts. The first leg of the triangle follows the International Distance swim course. The start and finish are on a sandy beach. Lifeguards, kayaks and platforms line the entire course. The course is defined with large & small buoys. Swimmers are required to wear a colored swim cap appropriate to their wave ALL athletes MUST report to the swim start 15 minutes prior to their scheduled wave start.

Transition
The transition area is east of the swim start/finish. Bikes MUST be WALKED in the transition area. Mount and dismount zones are outside the transition area. Bikes MAY NOT be removed from the bike transition until the last bike has completed the bike course and exited the transition area for the start of the run. Anyone removing a bike from transition before the announcement is made to remove bikes will be automatically disqualified and subject to arrest.

Bike Route
The bike course is on gently rolling Village roads with minimal turns. The road surface is a mix of asphalt and concrete. A combination of course marshals and police are stationed throughout the course and at all turns. Each turn is also spray painted. Bikers are required to wear an approved, strapped helmet and radios are not allowed. All bikes are required to display a bike number.

Run Route
The run course is flat and fast. Water aid are available 2 times on the Sprint course. The Sprint Distance course winds around Lake Andrea, and includes an out-and-back section on Park Drive.

Finish Line
The Finish line is located inside Prairie Springs Park, on the east side of Lake Andrea, along the lakefront path. Water, Gatorade and Panera will be provided to athletes.

Courses are subject to change. All participants are required to familiarize themselves with the course before the start, per USAT rules. Final course maps will be posted online and at the MultiSport Expo.
